Mark your calendars! The Annual Friends Concert for Mental Health, a fundraiser benefitting Friends of Loudoun Mental Health, is Saturday, October 5th
This year’s event features a performance by Juliana MacDowell and Friends, Dancing, Silent & Live Auctions and just plain fun with great friends!
Since 1955, Friends of Loudoun Mental Health has had a long and sustaining impact in Loudoun County. From its inception, Friends’ approach to dealing with mental health issues has been multidimensional: from direct assistance, community awareness and championing mental health legislation. There are few areas of mental health that Friends has not touched. Funds from the Friends Concert for Mental Health will help ensure their ability to continue their mission.
Our direct assistance programs include:
- A Place To Call Home: a homelessness prevention program.
- A Helping Hand: a one-time stipend for housing-related bills.
- Representative Payee: volunteers manage the finances of those disabled by mental illness.
- Friends Being Friends: fun social opportunities for people living with mental illness.
- Hike With Hope: a program to affirm the importance of knowing about and understanding mental illness.
- Suicide Loss Support Group: a monthly meeting/support group.
- Suicide Bereavement 4 Teens: a young adult support group.
- Mental Health Awareness Month: in collaboration with the Loudoun County Public Library, includes a month-long focus on programing about mental health issues.
Friends of Loudoun Mental Health has a sustaining impact through community awareness activities. We have strong relationships with local church and community groups where we participate in resource fairs and other community outreach.
Friends of Loudoun Mental Health believes in making governmental resources available on many levels including increased availability for mental health treatment. We have relationships with local and state government agencies and elected officials who we meet with to encourage and impact this platform.
Join us for a great night while supporting an organization that supports our community!
Juliana MacDowell, a relative newcomer to the music scene, has been singing all her life, but only began writing and recording songs in the last few years.
Living between Loudoun County, Virginia and Key West, Florida, her earthy vocals and moving originals unite her with listeners in captivating and memorable ways. Her interest in music began at age three when her grandfather hoisted her up on the bench of his Steinway – the piano she plays to this day.
More than just a woman singing into a microphone…she is an entertainer who connects with fans, reaches out to them and draws them in to the power of the music. (Kim Simpson – MUSE-ic Monthly). Juliana’s third album takes her to Nashville to record in 2018/19 with legendary engineer/producer, Bil VornDick (Bela Fleck; Sam Bush; Alison Krauss).
Her mature songwriting draws from her life experiences and wows with stories of love, loss and hope that her audience can identify with. She endears her audience by performing these songs from the heart, with her beautiful, distinctive and pitch perfect renditions. You may know her from local wineries and venues, but she is a favorite on the Key West scene, performing at sold out house concerts, resorts and the new Key West amphitheater and acclaimed Key West Theater. In recent years, she has extended her reach into other Southern states, playing such prestigious locals as Roaring Gap, NC and festivals like Roosterwalk. Juliana is also known for her love of playing local Loudoun charity events.
