Fabbioli Cellars, owned by Doug Fabbioli and Colleen Berg, has been in the works for over 30 years. When the Doug and Colleen moved to California in 1987, they had in the back of their minds the idea that they would find a piece of land and grow some grapes. What sounded easy on paper became quite the challenge. Knowing that their dream would not be fulfilled in California, they headed back East in 1997, bringing with them the knowledge, skills, and confidence they gained while out West.
In early 2000, they found a 25 acre parcel in the southern Lucketts area, just north of Leesburg in Loudoun County perfect for growing grapes. In 2001, planting began, along with building a home for their family. The initial planting was Merlot with a little Petit Verdot for blending. In 2005, they opened for business, launching Fabbioli Cellars from the basement of their house.
The passion that Doug Fabbioli has for making quality wines was passed down from his paternal grandfather, Leone Fabbioli. When Leone made his wine in the basement of his Elmira, NY home in the 1940’s and 50’s, he would take special care to sort the fruit, keep the lots of wine separate, and get to know the growers of the fruit before deciding to buy. Doug employs the same time-honored traditions of constant care and evaluation of quality, along with modern scientific techniques, in both growing the grapes and making the wine.
Fabbioli Cellars has an incredible network of family, friends, employees, and volunteers who contribute year-round to the endeavors. Each person who is a part of this network is considered to be extended family. From planting to pruning, crushing to fermenting, blending and bottling, and then to pouring and educating the customer about the wines, the Fabbioli Cellars team is the key to the success of one of Northern Virginia’s premier wineries.
Bound by a common passion for fine wines, earth-friendly farming, and lasting friendships, everyone at Fabbioli Cellars revels in the challenges that each day brings, confident that their efforts will not only bring them closer together, but will positively impact the experiences of each customer and the community while showcasing the best in Loudoun’s rural economy. Each month a new lineup of wines is featured on the tasting menu, paired with gourmet food bites crafted specifically to complement the wine and give the customer a deeper understanding of the wine and what foods to serve with it. An assortment of food plates and a la carte items are available so you can spend an afternoon relaxing with Fabbioli Cellars’ many award-winning wines and ciders. The beautiful new tasting room is open daily from 11 to 5, closing only for Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
We hope to visit with you soon!
